Review
Case was once the best data thief in the world, until a former employer damaged his nervous system so he could no longer jack into the matrix. A new patron promises to repair him in exchange for a dangerous run against a powerful AI.
The plot is a heist story, but the real draw is the world: neon-soaked cities, corporate dynasties, street samurai and an electric landscape of data. Gibson's prose is dense and stylish, inventing a vocabulary that the tech world still borrows from.
It can be disorienting on a first read, and the characters stay emotionally cool. But as the novel that defined cyberpunk, it is hard to overstate how much of our imagination of the internet starts here.
